Structure, as many of you know, is one of the best plugins for Jira to:
- Organize issues with multi-level hierarchy
- Visualize and Report at Project Portfolio level (PPM)
- Create dynamic structures and roadmaps
In this exercise we will install Structure and Structure.Gantt for Jira (Structure must be installed before install Gantt, because Gantt plugin is free… but Structure plugin is required to run Gantt)
Once installed, we can start creating a new Structure:
For this example, just select one of your projects (for example a Kanban project) in order to create the structure. We select Gantt chart option as Template to start.
In the SCOPE select your project
Now define the hierarchy structure levels. It’s very easy, also you can configure the link type to use as breaking down. The plugin seems to be compatible with Jira Portfolio extension of Atlassian, interesting.
Define the dependencies and the type of links mapped
And finally select how the work is defined and the fields to store Start and End dates.
That’s all, let’s see the results:
Very very good, the hierarchy has been constructed automatically. The panel is very intuitive like in BigPicture/BigGantt (you can read this post: BigPicture and NewStatusColorsPRO for Project Management in JIRA ).
Let’s play a little bit. We can change the start date of the Gantt
We can export the Gantt in several ways: Excel, PDF, SVG without an extra plugin
The exportation results in Excel is very good
In PDF the roadmap is super very good! good layout and style.
The config options of the export are very useful
More things about Structure plugin, we can manage a list of user Structures, that’s very interesting, the same philosophy as the standard JQL filters and Jira Dashboard easy to understand for the users (that knows Jira of course).
Let’s play a little bit more, like in the “DJ’s” software we can change the panel/layout positions and more.
We can add extra artificial notes (this means not included in Jira tickets) and folders.
We can add automation to the list of tickets using dynamic filters, very interesting! The structure is alive! ^^
Example:
Let’s play a little bit more with Structure, we can filter the view by levels…
We can reorder the issues and change subtasks from parent issues online…the same with the links, interesting.
In the Issue View standard of Jira we can see a Panel with the dependencies of the ticket, and visualize and track the Progress in some ways: Custom Progress, Progress by Status, Progress by Time Tracking
Customize your progress if you want!
To finish, we can install two gadgets of Structure plugin in our usual Jira Dashboard. Exist one gadget to show the Gantt and another one to show only the Structure:
Example:
More interesting info:
- You can complete the installation with Structure.Testy to create and track and visualize for FREE (because is a free add-on) Test cases!
